Devotees of cross-country skiing can
skim across numerous areas right on the South Shore.
Golf courses, trails as long as 15 miles and special
enclosed tracts of national forest are common sites
for the thousands of cross-country skiers enamored
with the area's fine snow and mild temperatures.

Bijou Cross-Country: Informal 4 km marked
trail across Bijou Community Park. No trail fee,
but no rental equipment or lessons are available.
Take Hwy. 50 to Al Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe,

Heavenly's New Mountain Adventure Center: 2.5
kilometers of gently rolling cross-country skiing
and snowshoeing trails, perfect for beginner
and intermediate cross-country skiers and snowshoers
of all ages. The trails are groomed nightly and
offer both skating lanes and track for diagonal
stride, as well as designated snowshoe-only trails.

Hope Valley Cross-Country Ski Center: 60
miles of trails, 10 groomed, in meadow and forest.
Children can ski in the new mini-ski area. Staff
escorts guests on Full Moon Tours, Wildlife Tours
and Backcountry Skills Seminars. No trail fees
are charged, but they rely on voluntary donations.

Kirkwood Cross-Country: 80 km of track
and skating lanes, 20% beginner, 60% intermediate,
20% advanced. Warming huts. Day lodge. Lessons,
rentals and guided tours. Adult $15, Junior $11,
Child $5, Senior $11. Avid Skier Card earns a
free day of skiing after four days on the trails.

Lake Tahoe Winter Sports Center: Three
to four km's of groomed trails and skating lanes
as well as 18 km's of ungroomed trails wind along
the Truckee River and through meadows with impressive
mountain views. Lessons, rentals and guided tours.

Spooner Lake Cross-Country: 91 km of
track and skating lanes, beginner to advanced
through aspen groves and along the Carson Range.
Rentals, lessons, day lodge. Adult $15, Student

Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area: located
only 2.5 miles east of Tahoe City, on the North
Shore of beautiful Lake Tahoe. With 65km of groomed
trail and spectacular lakeviews, Tahoe Cross
Country has some of the finest cross country
skiing on the lake. Snowshoeing is also popular
with our 3.5km snowshoe only trail that leads
