Young Guns head up the field at the Reno Tahoe Open
In his first tournament as a professional golfer on the PGA Tour, Bryce Molder finds himself in the final group Sunday with tour veteran Jerry Kelly. Each shooting a 5 under par 67 to lead the field in this years Reno-Tahoe Open. Both Kelly and Molder are looking for their first tour victory and a first place check over half a million dollars.
Another young player looking for his first win is 2000 NCAA Champion Charles Howell III. Paired with 10 time PGA Tour winner John Cook, Howell posted a 3 under par 69 to stay just 2 shots back of Kelly. Howell III has already won some $263,000 this year and a win could solidify his presence on the PGA Tour for next year.
A log jam of Tour veterans sitting just behind the leaders will put even more pressure on the final 2 groups. Justin Leonard, Brian Watts, J P Hayes, Duffy Waldorf and Tim Herron are all within striking distance and have a chance come Sunday. With temperatures soaring into triple digits, afternoon winds and lightning fast greens this could be anybodys tournament to win.
