ABOUT FOOD & WINE IN THE PINES: This October, the casino resort/hotels of Lake Tahoe’s South Shore will host the inaugural Lake Tahoe Food & Wine in the Pines – a celebration of great food, outstanding wines, and celebrity chefs.

The Festival will feature the opportunity to taste wines from the world’s most famous wine regions including France, Italy, California, Washington, Oregon, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Europe and South Africa. Chefs from some of the best restaurants in the greater Lake Tahoe and Northern California region will prepare fine cuisine. Celebrity chefs will include Martin Yan, celebrated host of more than 1,500 cooking shows, well-known cookbook author, and certified Master Chef.

Opening night, Oct. 10, will feature wines from Bordeaux, Chateauneaf du Pape, Alsace, and Portugal, a wine-tasting seminar, and a food and wine pairing tasting with special VIP guests and winery representatives, all at the Lake Tahoe Horizon Casino Resort. Friday, Oct. 11, Martin Yan will be the featured chef at a special dinner to be held in the Harrah’s Special Events Center. Chef Yan will also be a guest at the “Taste of Pacific Rim” food and wine tasting at Harveys Resort prior to the dinner.

Events on Saturday, Oct. 12, will include a “Taste of El Dorado Gold,” featuring top local restaurants from Tahoe’s South Shore, paired with great wines from nearby El Dorado County, an area rapidly developing its reputation for growing and creating fine wines; and a very special five-course dinner prepared by top chefs from the national organization Women Chefs & Restaurateurs, led by Ann Cooper, Executive Chef of the Ross School in East Hampton, N.Y., and consulting chef for the famed Putney Inn in Putney, Vt. The team will also include Sherry Yard, the Executive Pastry Chef for Wolfgang Puck’s Spago restaurant in Beverly Hills.

The grand finale event Sunday, Oct. 13, will be a gala food and wine tasting featuring a wide variety of wines from around the world and great food provided by chefs from some of the best restaurants in the greater Lake Tahoe and Northern California region.

Four selected charities will benefit from event proceeds. They are the South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center, the Culinary Arts Department at Lake Tahoe Community College, the South Lake Tahoe Bread and Broth Program, and the Barbara Tropp Scholarship Fund of Women Chefs & Restaurateurs.
